Sound of Success for North East Radio Station
A NORTH EAST radio station is celebrating after winning a national award.
Sunderland’s SUN FM has been named the region’s top station in the Nations and Regions awards organised by The Radio Academy.
This is the second year running SUN FM has taken the honour, given out to celebrate “programming that caters for the needs of a local audience, recognising the passion, commitment and outstanding content of UK local radio.”
“It’s a great honour for us to receive this award again,” said Julian Carter, MD of SUN FM. “This just validates all the great work we do in producing programmes and shows that really are at the heart of the city, for the people in the city.”
Jon Kirby, Chairman of the 2014 Nations and Regions Awards judging panel, said: “It was a great honour and privilege to judge such a broad range of fantastic stations.”
“The overall standard was incredibly high this year within every branch, and all of the stations who didn’t win should be very proud of their entries,” he said.
The judges praised the station for its work in Sunderland and its relevant local content and competitions.
“A real sense of fun and regional humour gives the station a well-deserved place in its listeners’ hearts,” said their winning citation.
This is the latest in a number of awards for the station, which was named as one of the Sunday Times’ Top 100 best mid -sized company earlier this year for the fourth time.
