New supercharger for electric cars opens in Warrington

A new superfast charge point for electric vehicles has been opened in the North of England at The Park Royal, one of QHotels’ portfolio of 27 hotels.

Located in Warrington, the new Supercharger is capable of providing half a charge in as little as 20 minutes, for free, for Tesla Supercharger-enabled Model S which can travel up to 285 miles on a single charge.

There are currently eleven Tesla Superchargers in the UK and the new charging point at The Park Royal is positioned at the most northern point in England.

Its location also means it is the most westerly Supercharger on the M6 – providing an additional charge point between Birmingham and Edinburgh.

The Supercharger at The Park Royal is the latest electric vehicle charging point to be added to hotels across the QHotels group.

The company currently has standard charge points at two other hotels and hopes to open more in the next 12 months.

Dr Alan James, policy advisor and author of the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) Factbook, is the first driver to complete a trip from London to north of Hadrian’s Wall in an electric car.

He completed the journey in a single evening, in the same overall time it would take in a vehicle with a petrol engine.

General Manager at The Park Royal, Paul Gallon said: “We are extremely proud to be one of the growing number of hotels to provide this premium offering for owners of green vehicles.

“Many of our customers commute from all areas of the country and our location by the M6 provides a central point for electric vehicles to recharge.

“We’re committed to significantly reducing our carbon footprint at The Park Royal and we have been recognised for our efforts.

“We hope the new Tesla Supercharger at the hotel will show people how convenient it can be to switch to electric vehicles.”

Alan said: “The new Supercharger at The Park Royal is a great move because it makes it easier for electric vehicle owners to travel longer distances without the need for lengthy stops.

“Using the Supercharger at The Park Royal, the car fully replenished its battery in less time than it took me to eat my dinner.

“It’s fantastic that it’s now possible to travel from London to the Scottish border with just one stop in an electric car.

“It’s a breakthrough and I congratulate QHotels for being ahead of the game!”
