Staff training helps firm to drive ambition

Workers at a Teesside plastics manufacturer have proven top class after picking up a work-based qualification.

The eight-strong team from Nifco UK Ltd successfully completed their Level 2 Certificate in Warehousing and Storage, delivered by Stockton Riverside College.

The warehouse staff are among the latest to benefit from the Eaglescliffe-based firm’s ongoing commitment to invest in the training of its staff.

With training opportunities being looked at for all of the company’s 450 staff, HR Training Officer, Alycia Davey said employees have welcomed the move to hone their skills and develop new ones.

Nifco UK Ltd, a plastic component manufacturer that makes parts for the automotive sector, is working with a number of key partners to deliver training, including Stockton Riverside College.

The eight warehouse staff worked hard to fit their studies around full time jobs.

Stephen Percival, who was among those to successfully complete the Level 2 course, said: “It was hard work at times, but worth it.”

Describing himself as “highly motivated” the 52-year-old from Billingham said: “Whatever I do I want to do to the best of my abilities. It would be silly not to take up an opportunity like this.”

Warehouse operative Stuart McLaren, 25, of Stockton, said: “Getting this qualification will open a lot of doors. I have had to make time to do it, but now I hope it will help me to get to the next level.”

Nifco’s Logistics Section Leader, Brian Wilson, commended his team’s efforts, he said: “Nifco is a growing company and we want our operators to grow with us.”

Stockton Riverside College’s Head of Construction, Engineering and Business, Michael Duffey, said: “I have great admiration for learners who combine work with study, as it takes commitment and determination. I sincerely hope that these learners will now go on to continue their learner journey with the College.”
