Jumping In To Christmas
Diners at a County Durham restaurant are jumping into Christmas with the aid of some seasonal knitwear.
Over the next two weeks, visitors to the Italian Farmhouse, West Rainton, are being encouraged to don their jolliest Christmas jumpers for the chance to win a sparkling, seasonal prize.
Pictures of those taking part will be posted on the venue’s Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/theitalianfarmhouse - with the one receiving the most likes being rewarded with a free bottle of house Champagne.
The competition, which closes on Christmas Eve, is being held to coincide with the launch of the Italian Farmhouse’s new Festive Luncheon and Dinner menus, which are now being served Monday to Saturday - including Boxing Day - until December 31.
Both menus, available from noon until 2.30pm and 5pm to 9.30pm respectively, include a choice of starters, such as field mushrooms and Gorgonzola, main courses ranging from braised brisket of beef to fillet of salmon and decadent desserts, including chocolate and caramel torte.
Those dining from the Dinner menu also have an extra option for each course, with the addition of a mini fishcake starter, crisp cod fillet main course and classis tiramisu for dessert.
On Christmas Day itself, the Italian Farmhouse will be open from midday until 2.30pm, serving a four course festive feast for those who prefer not to cook at home.
Options on the carefully designed menu include a selection of festive canapés, and a choice of starters, including Toscana Italian spicy sausage and pan fried scallops in Parma ham.
For main course, diners of all ages can opt for a traditional favourite, such as roasted breast of Norfolk turkey, or try something different like polenta cake with goat’s cheese.
This will be followed by a choice of dessert, such as Amaretto and chestnut mousse or, for those with savoury tastebuds, a selection of cheese and biscuits.
For the first time ever the Italian Farmhouse will also be hosting live entertainment on New Year’s Eve. Visitors can enjoy a lavish three course dinner, including dishes such as pan-fried chicken liver, whole roasted rib eye of beef and poached pears, along with a live performance by singer Garri Moore and music until 1am.
Dimitri Camerzam, Manager at the Italian Farmhouse, said: “Everyone loves a Christmas jumper so what better way to celebrate the season and mark the launch of our new festive menus than by challenging our diners to see who has the best one?”
The Italian Farmhouse’s Christmas Festive Luncheon and Dinner menus are priced at £14.95 per person and £19.95 per person respectively. Christmas day is £59.95 per person or £29.50 for a child under 12, with New Year’s Eve priced at £44.95 per person for adults only.
The winner of the Christmas jumper competition will be chosen on Christmas Eve and will receive a free bottle of house Champagne to take away or enjoy on their next visit to the Italian Farmhouse.
