Burnley IT firm benefits from £5.6 million training scheme

A Burnley-based IT firm is investing in staff development, thanks to free training being provided by the £5.6 million Lancashire Skills Support for the Workforce (LSS) programme.

Lanway Corporate Business Systems has developed a training plan allowing staff to gain a range of new skills including self-awareness, teamwork, sales and understanding customer expectations; as well as training on specific software.

The training, delivered by Burnley College, has allowed Lanway to improve its team as a whole and continue providing excellent customer service.

LSS is delivered by Lancashire County Council.

It will support 3,817 employees, aged 19 and over, who are working in small or medium-sized businesses and have a workforce of up to 250 employees.

LSS will run until July 2015 - with places allocated to businesses on a first-come, first-served basis.

Training available through the scheme includes a mix of basic and higher level skills, leadership and management skills, as well as technical and industry specialist qualifications.

The programme is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).

LSS operates across the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership (LEP) area, which consists of Lancashire, Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen local authorities

Maureen Kelly, project manager at Burnley College, said: “Lanway has always prided itself on producing home-grown talent; recruiting new employees at grassroots level and providing them with the opportunity to work through the ranks is commonplace.

“Managing director Andrew Henderson is testament to this ethos, starting his 18 year career at Lanway in the warehouse.”
