Data center industry threatened by growing skills shortage
Members of the data center industry are struggling to find and develop the skills that will allow them to meet the rapidly-changing demands of a global digital economy, DatacenterDynamics warned today. Without adequate understanding of these trends and investment in critical professional development, the data center industry will simply fail to keep up with the emerging data storage needs of ever more agile, digital and mobile enterprises.
According to industry analyst Gartner, an overwhelming 80 per cent of firms are expected to find their growth held back by 2016 due to a lack of new data center skills[1]; while the McKinsey Global Institute predicts a global shortage of 1.5 million skilled and qualified data center managers as early as 2015.
To bridge the gap between business, technology and professionals, DatacenterDynamics is bringing together a number of industry experts at its DatacenterDynamics Converged event at CeBIT, in Hannover, Germany from 16-20 March 2015.
The purpose of the event is to help data center professionals and IT-enabled firms explore some of the key trends in data centers and what they mean for the development of industry professionals.
The conference, entitled “The Business of Data Centers” will be the world’s largest international data center event.
George Rockett, Founder of the DatacenterDynamics event series added:
“Today’s IT managers and data center professionals face the difficult task of trying to keep up with a shifting data and technology landscape. Ensuring they understand the trends and can develop their skills to meet them is essential in this highly competitive global marketplace. The conference programme features a host of internationally-renowned experts who will focus on helping IT professionals boost their confidence and expertise to successfully power and protect the modern data center.”
The conference will also debate the differences between on-premise data centers, colocation and the cloud, the growth in Solid State Drive storage solutions and the rise of micro-data centers. Senior decision makers will be able to explore how companies and organisations should select data center partners for their international growth requirements.
