North Tyneside CNC machining company recruits apprentice

Chirton Engineering based in North Tyneside are a specialist subcontractor of precision engineered components with a large market share in the offshore oil & gas sector. Chirton Engineering is a company which has always supported young people with apprenticeships and 2014 was no different.

Davey Collins, Tyne North Training’s Senior Training Officer, whose specialist discipline is machining has always taken great pride in the quality of training and apprentices at Chirton. This year Paul Stewart, Managing Director, asked Davey to find him a 1st year apprentice who could maintain these high standards which TNT have always set.

Being strong believers in supporting the local area, TNT and Chirton approached the local schools and one individual, Charlotte Brass was discovered. As with all TNT apprentices she had to undergo the vigorous recruitment process which included testing and assessment and an interview at TNT. Once this had been completed Chirton themselves interviewed Charlotte and even met her parents to make sure the machining apprenticeship which she so desired was right for her.

Charlotte was offered her apprenticeship in the summer and has subsequently started her workshop activities in college. Already she has been earmarked for great things both as an employee and learner within the college.

Davey Collins commented, “Charlotte came to Tyne North Training with the sole intention of getting an engineering apprenticeship at Chirton Engineering. She visited the factory with her parents and both Paul and I spent time with the whole family explaining what the company and role would be. Chirton should be very proud that a young woman with such ambition should have chosen Chirton to be her employer.”
