What does it take to set up a business in the North East?

Many people, agencies and more have been coming to me over the last few years to find out ‘Are people still setting up businesses in Newcastle?’, ‘Is self-employment something that actually helps people in the long run?’, ’How do people get the information and support they need? Etc.

My answer,

Just over 1000 individuals graduated one of our PNE business courses in 2014, 254 of those set up in business and were still there in December 2014, and those are just the numbers from PNE Enterprise. With support also available through the BIPC, Go Digital and more this to me says Newcastle is full of people setting up businesses that are sustainable.

So, what do you think? Is Newcastle an enterprising city?

It is my mission for 2015 to ensure that those who want to explore the idea of setting up in business, not just in Newcastle but across the North East, have access to the help they need; I want to ensure that those who do set up in business stay in business and, that every individual and business that needs information and support can access it.

So how are we going to do that?

We are committed to business education in the city and so have organised a number of FREE 8 week business courses that cover the practical skills and knowledge to run a successful business. We have made these available during the day and evenings, in Gateshead and Newcastle as well as making them accessible online for those who can’t make it in person.

We have also set up some ‘extra courses’ for you including 1 day Intensive Introduction to Business, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Wordpress courses, ½ Day Book Keeping and so many more.

We are also working closely with the BIPC in Newcastle to ensure that everyone who needs Intellectual Property Advice can get it, as well as working with the councils and colleges across the region to fill in any gaps, which includes grant support and funding for organisations; and, the Go Digital programme ensuring every business can have access to high speed broadband.

So, if you’re interested in learning more about the world of business, you need to talk to someone about taking your business to the next level or you want to come on to one (or more) of our popular business courses get in touch.
