EnCase App Central Surpasses 50,000 Download Milestone

EnScripts Speed Digital Investigations by Automating Tedious Tasks

PASADENA, Calif. (February 2, 2015) – Guidance Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: GUID), the World Leader in Digital Investigations™, announced today that downloads of apps on EnCase® App Central have now exceeded 50,000 since the inception of the online store in February 2013. The apps or “EnScripts” provide extensibility and automation for users of EnCase® products, significantly increasing productivity.

EnCase App Central was created as a one-stop shop for EnCase users to download EnScripts that automate time-consuming tasks such as searching for social media artifacts or to more effectively uncover evidence that is difficult to expose such as P2P sharing or anti-forensics artifacts. Today there are 130 EnScripts available online at the EnCase App Central store.

The top three downloaded EnScripts are:

SEEB USB - Mounted Devices Report: creates detailed reports on USB, mounted and portable devices that have been plugged into a suspect’s system without requiring manual retrieval of artifacts via the registry files. VSS Examiner: compares files in different Volume Shadow Copies enabling investigators to quickly and easily view files that have been deleted, moved, or copied. Volatility Reporting Plugin: provides centralized reporting of volatile data artifacts collected by the open source and popular Volatility program. It eliminates the need to cut and paste the Volatility program data into a report thus saving investigators significant time and energy.

Other popular EnScripts include: MemoryAnalysis, Categorize Internet History, Prefetch Parser, Exif Viewer Plugin, Hacker Offender, Ares Dat File Decryptor and MFT Data Comparator.

“The extensibility of EnCase has always been a distinct advantage for our user community, and that community is clearly committed to creating and sharing EnScripts that solve the problems of fellow investigators,” said Barry Plaga, acting CEO for Guidance Software. “The power to improve investigators’ efficiency has never been greater, as more and more EnScript developers join and contribute to the EnCase App Central community.”

Most apps on EnCase App Central are free-of-charge, but there are also paid apps leveraging the EnCase open architecture and EnScript programming language. Each app is vetted and tested by a technical team at Guidance Software before it is made available at EnCase App Central. More than 60,000 investigators trained and licensed in the use of EnCase solutions can leverage these apps to automate and add to the functionality of their EnCase software for more effective and streamlined digital investigations.

Key EnScript developers include Belkasoft, Cisco/Threatgrid, Magnet Forensics, and WetStone Technologies. Their tools are geared toward collection of mobile and social media artifacts, as well as helping to identify cyber threats. All tools seamlessly integrate collected data into EnCase for examination, processing, and reporting.
