Newcastle women want tech geeks!

It appears that Newcastle’s tech geeks and computer nerds are experiencing somewhat of a U-turn on the UK dating scene, with formerly ‘unlucky in love’ tech-savvy males now winning the hearts of women all over Newcastle. For men, however, who have already met their match, a good knowledge of computers and other tech devices may help impress the in-laws, based on new research released today by Crucial.com.

In the recent past, the stereotypical image of a tech geek included jam-jar glasses and minimal social skills. However, new research has revealed that 56% of women from Newcastle prefer a man who knows his way around a computer, as opposed to one who can tinker under a car bonnet (46%) or brag about his knowledge of Britain’s favourite sport, football (10%). However, men who pride themselves on their knowledge of more serious subjects don’t make the cut either, with only 19% of women looking for a guy who knows a lot about politics. Over a fifth of women (22%) believe that being tech-savvy makes a man relationship material.

Knowing about technology and having confidence using it is important to 91% of Newcastle women. Almost three quarters (72%) believe tech knowledge can help fix or upgrade tech devices when they break – and make them run faster and save money in the long run.

“If men today want to really impress a potential partner, they need to up their game and become more tech-savvy,” said Roddy McLean, a computer upgrade expert from Crucial.com. “A simple memory upgrade can speed up a slow computer, while also making men appear tech-savvy to both a partner and in-laws”.
