Grays Executive Search Expands into Birmingham

Grays Executive Search, specialist in senior and board level recruitment, has expanded into Birmingham to help local and international companies find the best in leadership as competition over talent gets tougher.

Grays Executive is a Search and Selection consultancy and is part of Cordant Recruitment, the second-largest privately owned recruitment company in the UK.

From the new office in New Street, Birmingham the consultancy will introduce the best in the business to the rising number of UK and global organisations relocating to the city.

“More businesses are moving to Birmingham for many reasons such as cost and accessibility which is driving up competition for talent,” said Phillip Machell, Managing Director of Grays Executive Interim division. “On the other hand, the Office of National Statistics has shown that more professionals are choosing the city as their top destination to live and work. From our new office in Birmingham and our base in London, we can bring great leaders and businesses together.”

At the same time as the office opening, Grays Executive Search has launched a new Executive Interim search division which will be headed up by ex-Michael Page Director, Phillip Machell, from the Birmingham office.

Phillip Machell, who lives in Burton-upon-Trent, has 22 years experience in senior level recruitment and an outstanding track record in the interim space. As Executive Director at Michael Page for four years, Phillip worked under Simon Bell, now Group Managing Director for Grays Executive, and together they masterminded the success of Michael Page’s Executive Interim division. Phillip has also been managing director at another leading company, recruiting in the manufacturing and rail sector, and has had a lot of experience in the interim automotive industry.

The move into Birmingham comes just three months after the executive recruitment specialists first opened their doors at the exciting redevelopment at Kings Cross, London. It is six months ahead of its plans to create a footprint outside of London, accelerated by the rapidly rising demand for its search and selection services for permanent and interim roles across a range of sectors worldwide.

The consultancy has doubled its team to six specialist consultants who will work between London and Birmingham, and the company plans to open a third office in Manchester later in the year.

Simon Bell, Group Managing Director of Grays Executive Search, commented, “Expanding into the executive search and interim markets from Birmingham has strengthened our market position and our service offering to both our candidates and clients. With a strong presence in two of the largest cities in the UK, we are well positioned to serve all our clients recruitment needs across a range of industries both in the UK and overseas. Our next move is to triple our staff numbers and open another office by the end of this year with an eye on expanding overseas in the near future.”
