Barons Quay development moves forward as council is granted CPO
Cheshire West and Chester Council has been granted a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for the remaining land required for the Barons Quay development.
The official notice will appear in the local press next week. Once it is published, the Council can proceed to acquire any outstanding interests.
Construction is now underway on the £80 million riverside development which is designed to enhance and increase footfall to the existing town centre.
In addition to an Odeon cinema and an Asda superstore, Barons Quay will include restaurants, cafes, shops and hundreds of parking spaces.
The Council already owns 94 percent of the land required for the major retail and leisure development.
Councillor Lynda Jones, Executive Growth and Innovation, said: “The CPO is a major milestone in delivering this hugely important scheme which will create 1,200 jobs and transform Northwich into one of the North West’s busiest market towns.
“We will now press ahead with our negotiations with a view to to obtain all remaining interests by agreement wherever possible.”
The Council was advised by DAC Beachcroft Solicitors (Manchester Office) throughout the CPO process.
