Second Chance for Shoppers to Bring The Happy

SHOPPERS at a North East centre are being given a second chance to share their happiest memories, thanks to the return of an innovative arts project.

Bring the Happy will be returning to the Bridges in Sunderland on February 19 as the latest in a series of events, run in conjunction with the centre’s Thursday late night shopping, organised by Sunderland BID.

The project, created by Leeds-based arts group Invisible Flock, gives people the chance to recall their happiest memories by pinpointing where they happened on a digital map.

The event will give Sunderland shoppers another opportunity to make their mark on the project, which has run across the country, by using tablets to interact with the 3-D map.

“This project is a great way for people to share their special moments and spread some happiness during winter,” said Ken Dunbar, Chief Executive of Sunderland BID.

“Bring the Happy is the latest in a series of imaginative events taking place every Thursday night to highlight just how much there is to do in Sunderland after normal working hours.”

The pop-up Bring the Happy installation will be at the Bridges from 6 pm.

“We’re looking forward to the return of Bring the Happy,” said Andy Bradley, Centre Director at the Bridges.

“The pop-up event was a really good fun last time and our shoppers really enjoyed sharing their stories.

“It’s great to see so many people getting involved and returning time and time again on late night Thursdays to shop and enjoy the entertainment.”

Parking at the Bridges is free from 5.30pm until 9pm on Thursdays, with many of the centre’s major retailers staying open until 8pm.

Stories collected through Bring the Happy at the Bridges – and through other installations across Wearside and South Tyneside – will be included in Bring the Happy Live, a musical event taking place at North Shore, Charles Street on Feb 26-28.
