Business boost for Beach House bistro
Football, art and even pancake tossing, have helped boost visitor numbers at a seafront café.
The Beach House bistro, at Roker, Sunderland, welcomed more than 1500 visitors during February half term (February 16 to 22) – more than double its usual weekly footfall.
The venue’s owner, 1879 Events Management, has attributed this success to a series of family-focussed, holiday events, including art workshops, pancake races, and coaching sessions by Sunderland AFC Ladies, and announced plans to encourage further growth by expanding the venue’s offering all year-round.
This includes extending The Beach House’s opening hours until 4pm weekdays and developing the food menu to incorporate more homemade cakes, breakfasts and speciality dishes.
Plans are also being put in place to host additional activities during the school summer holidays with more details expected soon.
Gary Hutchinson, Director at 1879 Events Management, said: “The half term holidays were extremely successful at The Beach House bistro, thanks in large part to our planned programme of family events.
“Customers also commented on the addition of new food items, including daily specials, gluten free dishes and more vegetarian options, which we now intend to make permanent, alongside the extended opening hours, as a direct result of the positive feedback we received.”
The Beach House bistro is the first stand-alone eatery to be owned and operated by 1879 Events Management, which also manages catering and events at the Stadium of Light and National Glass Centre, Sunderland.
The venue, overlooking Roker beach, will now open daily from 10am until 4pm weekdays and 10am until 5pm at weekends.
