Job availability up in the North West by 4%
Contract Recruitment Index highlights
There was a 4% increase in jobs month-on-month Increase in HR project staff within NHS trusts to combat “whistle blowing” cases Approach of end of financial year driving boom for accountants within business services and leisure Despite rise in vacancies, rates fall 7% across region month-on-month
Overall increase in demand for professional talent
The March 2015 North West Recruitment Index recorded a 4% month-on-month increase in job availability with 2,667 vacancies advertised, compared to 2,566 in January 2015.
Stan Murray Hession, Associate Director of Venn Group, commented:
“As the end of the financial year approaches, we’ve witnessed a sharp increase in demand for finance roles across both the public and private sectors. Many financial accountants across the region are being snapped up by clients in a vast array of industries from business services to leisure.
The NHS has followed this trend with a large increase in accountancy vacancies as well as a rise in IT positions to develop and maintain improving healthcare technology systems. It has also seen a surge in demand for HR project staff in the region to improve current HR practices due, in part, to the prevalence of “whistle blowing” cases.”
Contractors’ rates decline due to record low inflation in February 2015
The average rate for those securing jobs in February 2015 was 7% lower than those recorded in January 2015, with contractors now receiving an average of £13 per hour across the region. This can be attributed, in part, to last month’s record low inflation which has affected rates both across the region and across the UK.
Stan Murray Hession continued:
“Employment figures in the region remain promising due to initiatives such as the oncoming £15m construction of a new logistics hub for Manchester airport. This will create jobs immediately on its completion in early 2016 and the excellent transport opportunities will certainly attract outside businesses looking for a presence in the North West as well as boosting businesses already based in the region.”
