Recruiter websites are no longer just job boards

A job for life has become a thing of the past.

With the average length of time in a job now 18 months - it’s no wonder that recruiter job sites have evolved to provide additional functionality and applications to help candidates manage their careers as well as find their dream job.

Today’s recruiters’ jobsites have become social platforms for their professional communities. They no longer just advertise jobs but provide the tools and the channels to facilitate client and candidate interactions.

Candidates can now create and build engagement, ask questions, share blogs and articles of interest, build followers and position themselves as thought leaders to help them get noticed in their professional groups.

“This distinct shift in candidate behaviour is not wasted on professional recruitment organisations and is steadily driving the move to evolve recruitment websites into engaging, easy to use and informative one-stop career hubs. This transparent and insightful interaction with active and passive candidates alike opens up long-term communication lines, which is a value-add in itself for the client.” says Lauren McLeod, head of marketing at Morgan Hunt.

Morgan Hunt has released its new website for jobseekers and employers, built from the ground up and optimised for smartphone and tablet devices. The recruitment ‘careers hub’ was designed not just for a great customer experience but also with social media in mind; to create social conversations among candidates and clients. These interactions can have huge impact on the amount of users going to the job site.

“It’s also important to build the recruitment brand in your industry sectors, establishing yourself as stand out to become (and stay) the ‘go to’ firm when a client has a job to fill. We measure everything that we do so we can tell how our candidates and clients are engaging with our brand.” says McLeod.

Advertising jobs is clearly a must for job sites but todays job seekers want more. For them job search is an ongoing affair, not just for job churn but also for salary benchmarking, industry best practice, competitor watching, emerging industries and a whole host of other needs. Plus keeping ‘up close and personal’ with your favoured recruitment consultant may pay dividends further down the line.

Maintaining a current and up-to-date CV was not something our predecessor workers three decades ago needed to do, now it’s become a prerequisite for continued employment and staying active can boost your career.

“Recruiter websites co-exist with job boards and other social media channels but many clients want to be introduced to candidates that are not necessarily looking for a job, so to attract these types we need to ensure our platform is responsive to the latest technology and is easy to use.” says McLeod.
