Holidays are ‘the key to happiness’

Whitley Bay -based travel agent Lizzie Adamson-Brown who runs her own travel business as part of leading independent travel company Travel Counsellors, claims to have answered the age old question – just what is the key to happiness?

As the world celebrates ‘International Day of Happiness’ on Friday 20th March, Travel Counsellors conducted a survey to gain further insight into just what makes us happy, and how the British public rate their holiday happiness. The poll revealed a whopping 83% felt that a holiday would make them the happiest, with buying a new home second at 12%, and just 4% saying a work promotion would be top of their happy list.

Lizzie comments; “The survey results highlight just how highly people value their holidays, and how they are at the very top of their priority list. It’s evident that holidays clearly have a huge impact on people’s overall wellbeing and happiness, as they are able to escape the stresses of everyday life and spend quality time with their friends and family. I love working in an industry that makes people happy and I always go above and beyond to ensure my customers’ holidays are extra special.”

Further to this 98% of those asked said a holiday was important to their overall happiness, highlighting how many feel it is essential to factor a holiday into their lives to keep them content. People were also asked what makes them the happiest about going on holiday, with the most popular response being the time to de-stress and relax (39%), followed by spending time with family and friends (29%), experiencing new cultures (20%) and surprisingly the weather coming in last as a factor at just 12%.

Notably when asked what they value most in the holiday booking process, a significant 69% of respondents stated that booking with someone they can trust was the most important factor in making their holiday a happy one. Second on the list of priorities is expert advice, with price ranking third.

As the UK’s leading independent travel company, Travel Counsellors prides itself on the knowledge, expertise and personal service offered by its agents. Lizzie runs her own business from home, using Travel Counsellors’ award-winning technology, and is available whenever is most convenient for the customer - including during the evenings and at weekends.
