Maximising Productivity and cutting through business red tape
Watch our small and micro business advice show for increasing your efficiency
SMEs are under considerable pressure to deliver and remain competitive, but a lack of essential resources — including staff, time, money and technology — can lead to multiple inefficiencies, a new report has found.
The need to prioritise means that some areas of operation are easily overlooked or neglected, which can make it harder to secure both new and repeat business. Finding new ways to speed up and simplify essential processes can help to remedy this: increased efficiency creates more opportunities for innovation and, ultimately, success.
In September 2014, 757 small business owners (with up to 50 employees) across the UK, France and Germany were surveyed on behalf of software provider Nuance. Respondents were asked to identify areas in which their businesses are most and least efficient, and discuss their current use of time-saving tools such as voice recognition software and document/content management systems.
Their responses reveal that British small business owners are more likely to see their operation as ‘very efficient’ than their French and German counterparts, that general business admin and red tape is the biggest barrier to efficiency, and that most decisions about IT software/hardware are made by the business owner, based on the brands they know best.
