Barnsley IT firm doubles revenue and staff in past year

Over the past twelve months, a Barnsley IT company, which specialises in the precision engineering sector, has doubled its turnover and number of staff since last summer due to an increase in demands.

Goldthorpe-based IT Desk, which was established in 2006 and offers IT management and support to small and large businesses, has received support from from the Barnsley Council-run programme Enterprising Barnsley.

Over half of the company’s work is in the precision engineering sector, including contracts with Oracle Precision and Brinsworth Training, but it also boasts clients in the healthcare, architecture and recruitment sectors.

The company offers a variety of IT support packages that are tailored to the requests of its customers. Specialising in proactive support including remote monitoring of systems 24 hours a day, IT Desk is able to respond to problems immediately and resolve any issues over the phone, via remote assistance or through on-site support.

Furthermore, the company also provides an overnight maintenance program which offers crucial upkeep to any systems when they are not in use.

Managing director Chris Wright said: “We are based in an area which is rich in engineering and this has very much become our niche market. Our clients like the fact that we offer a bespoke service and take the time to understand their business and that we are always on hand to help out with their IT issues.

“A lot of our work has come through recommendation and we now have clients from as far south as Kent and as far north as Fife. We save our customers time and money by picking up on any problems during the night and providing more efficient and reliable machines for staff to use through the day.”

Enterprising Barnsley, which proposes a range of free business support to SMEs with growth potential, has provided free advice in marketing, business development and tendering.

Tracey Johnson, the creative and digital industries sector specialist for Enterprising Barnsley, said: “We are pleased to hear that the company is planning to expand its business in Goldthorpe.

“IT Desk is a company which knows its customers and works hard to keep them happy. It has a high level of customer loyalty and a clear idea of how it wants to grow and develop in Barnsley.”

The Enterprising Barnsley programme is supported financially by the European Union and has attracted £3,015,276 investment from the European Regional Development Fund as part of Europe’s support for the region’s economic development, through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme.
