Trevor's Health Business Courts New Clients

A South Tyneside teenager who made a crucial life or death decision at just 16 years of age that saved his life but left him physically disabled has become one of the region’s leading experts in sports therapy.

When Trevor Rutherford from Jarrow, Tyne & Wear was diagnosed with bone cancer in his right leg in 1986, he underwent two years of treatment before being told that he had to either have his leg amputated and have a prosthetic leg fitted or face dire consequences.

As a keen sportsman, the decision to lose a leg wasn’t easy but since then, Trevor has put all of his energy, commitment and dedication into helping others succeed in the sports world.

After running successful gyms in Bill Quay and Hebburn for more than 15 years, Trevor now offers consultancy sessions with a leading northeast clinic, The Northern Integrative Health Practice and has just started his own practice, the Health 1st Gym based at the Tyneside Badminton Centre in Slatyford, Newcastle.

Trevor now specialises in personal one to one workouts, small group training sessions, and rehabilitation pre/post and soft tissue management (massage & sports injuries)

Working at the Tyneside Badminton Centre, Trevor has found a new ready-made team of clients. “It’s great to help the badminton teams out with their health and fitness. I really appreciate that I’m lucky to have my practice in such a prestigious location with a great team on hand.”

His work has helped him to build up a large client base and a professional reputation as well as a nickname he believes sums up his work, “The Body Detective.”

“I really enjoy delving deep into my client’s case histories to ensure that the treatment I give them is right for them,” he said. “I see a lot of fit, healthy people coming into the clinic with injuries and I want to get to the bottom of why these occur and how to prevent them with the right exercise and nutritional lifestyle.

“I’m making it my mission to make sure that as many people as possible know that there’s an alternative way to exercise and that it’s never too late to start to get fit. Do more exercise and change your lifestyle is old hat that’s fallen short.

“First move well then move often” will help to prevent injuries and improve your lifestyle. “It’s not all about looking better; it’s more about feeling better and moving better”.
