Leeds-based Shulmans exceed £10m turnover target

Leeds-based, Shulmans LLP, a full service corporate law firm, has reached its £10m turnover target due to the growth of 100% over the past five years.

Five years ago Tim Halstead, managing partner who has been at the forefront of the firm’s success, forged a plan for Shulmans to grow by 50% in that period and so, he explained, “to exceed that by such a margin is a real achievement.”

In the same period, the firm also hired an additional 65 members of staff, bringing their current total of employees to 155.

Furthermore, the number of partners has also risen from 14 to 22, with the appointment of three new partners just this week: Mark Wilkinson, Business Recovery and Insolvency; Rob Lucas, Intellectual Property and Dawn Carlisle, Commercial Property and International.

This success is largely down to keeping a consistent list of high profile recruits, such as Addleshaw Goddard, Bond Dickinson and Walker Morris, as this has guaranteed in bringing new client work to the firm.

As well as being a corporate law firm, Shulmans also specialise in the property market, recognised in particular as experts in the house building sector, with clients including Barratt Homes.

Commenting on the firm’s success, Mr Halstead, managing director, said: “We’ve recently invested further in complementary areas such as planning and construction, and this carefully considered expansion of our core offering, coupled with judicious growth in the more niche areas, has proved a winning formula.

“Our growth has been carefully planned and orchestrated, and is underpinned by strong finances. We’re a full-service, UK 200 corporate law firm. We have no net borrowings despite a seven figure IT infrastructure investment and a move into state-of-the-art new premises last year. It’s been a hugely successful past five years, and the next five could be even more so.”
