Fletchers welcomes senior solicitor to head up new specialist injury unit
Fletchers Solicitors, one of the UK’s leading serious injury law firms, has set up a specialist high value medical injury unit within its growing clinical negligence practice to concentrate on the more serious and catastrophic cases of this type, with which the firm is increasingly dealing with.
The firm has also brought in a highly-regarded specialist solicitor with nearly thirty years’ experience in the field, to head up the team as it continues to grow.
Mark Tempest joins the firm from national firm Irwin Mitchell, where he was a partner in the Leed’s office handling clinical negligence and serious injury cases.
Prior to this, Mark had spent 21 years as a partner at York law firm, Harrowells, where he built a national reputation for the firm in both serious personal injury and clinical negligence, including some ground breaking cases and class actions. Mark has a long track record of delivering successful outcomes to seriously injured clients, including many multi million pound Court awards and settlements.
In between his appointments at Harrowells and Irwin Mitchell, Mark spent three years at Hempsons’ Harrogate office, representing the NHS - an experience which has deepened his understanding of both sides of the process and makes him better able to achieve results for his clients.
Mark is a member of the Law Society’s expert panel in Civil and Commercial Mediation and aims to use these skills to help achieve timely, fair solutions in the most serious cases. Throughout his career Mark has held a number of appointments on expert panels and executives. These include the Law Society panels for personal injury and clinical negligence and also specialist solicitor status with the Spinal Injury Unit and Headway (Brain Injuries). He was also on the managing board of the British Association of Brian Injury Case Manager (BABICM), an active member of the UK Association for Brain Injury (UKABIF) and has for many years, been a trustee at the Stepping Stones charity at Pinderfields’ Spinal Injury Unit in Yorkshire.
In his role at Fletchers Solicitors he will head up a team of experienced solicitors with the aim of creating one of the country’s leading serious injury units for injuries arising from clinical negligence. Mark will work closely with the existing team at Fletchers, including Adrian Denson, who is the head of the serious personal injury unit handling accident claims.
The new unit has been created in response to the increasing volume of cases that the firm is attracting and underlines the firm’s commitment to serving clients with the most serious and life changing injuries.
Commenting on his appointment, Mark Tempest, said: “Fletcher’s dedication to serving clients with serious injury, whether as a result of accidents or clinical negligence, is second to none and matches my own approach to the work. I am delighted to be joining them and really looking forward to helping build on their success to date.”
Ed Fletcher, CEO of Fletchers Solicitors, said: “Dealing with serious injury work is something which Fletchers has had decades of experience with. In the same way that we have set up a dedicated award winning unit to deal with this level of work within our bike team, we have also taken the same step within our medical negligence department.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome Mark on board. He brings with him many wonderful years of experience, including handling the most challenging cases together with his experience of developing teams of lawyers. I have no doubt that his skills, knowledge and dedication to his clients will make him a valuable addition here at Fletchers Solicitors.”
