Hartlepool's J&B Recycling undergoes expansion with jobs boost

J&B Recycling, a Hartlepool-based recycling firm, has filled a large number of roles and is creating new job opportunities as the business continues to grow.

The company, which employs almost 200 staff, recycles approximately 120,000 tonnes of waste each year from household, commercial, industrial and construction sources with customers including car parts manufacturer Nifco UK, Camerons Brewery and dozens of community buildings, pubs and restaurants.

J&B Recycling took on 33 employees in September, with another eight added to the payroll before the New Year. In addition to those, a mechanical engineer has been taken on to work alongside a fitter, while a new role was created for an electrical engineer.

As part of the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) code of practice, two quality inspectors were recruited with the main roles of checking loads coming in ensuring they meet the agreed specification and taking samples of loads in and out of Windermere Road.

“The business is continuing to grow and we hope to be able to create more employment opportunities in the future.”

While the new staff settle into their roles, existing employees can now take advantage of a unique in-house learning system where senior members of the team can pass on their knowledge through a ‘training the trainer’ project.

Site supervisor Steve Hotham is now qualified to train and certify plant drivers having successfully completed a forklift truck course in December.

Additionally, banksmen at J&B Recycling can now be fully trained by Matthew Emery, following his own training campaign.

Vikki added: “There is a lot of knowledge of all areas of the business throughout J&B Recycling, and this ‘train the trainer’ scheme allows that expertise to be passed on throughout the company.

“Rather than going on training courses and learning in the traditional way, this way people on-site can pick up what they need to know from someone who is already fully qualified and can learn on the job.”
