How will ESOS participants report their compliance?
Nationwide energy consultancy, _energy_TEAM, is supporting multiple businesses in meeting their compliance requirements for the Energy Saving Opportunities Scheme (ESOS). Here they discuss the compliance notification process for participants.
Participants in the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) are obligated to comply with the scheme and report their compliance to the Environment Agency, as the scheme administrator, by the 5th December 2015.
It is the participant’s duty to notify the scheme administrator through the online notification system. This system is essentially an online questionnaire that confirms specific details relating to the ESOS participant and their compliance activities. For CRC participants, you may notice that the online notification portal for ESOS follows a similar process in notification of CRC compliance.
The online notification system does not require login details or for participants to create an account when submitting their notification details. There are no restrictions as to who can submit the notification on behalf of a participant, however, the responsible undertaking still has full liability over the compliance and therefore should be happy with the accuracy of the information when submitted.
It is advised by the Environment Agency that participants should report their compliance as soon as possible to reduce the risk of late submission which may result in a significant penalty. The submission form can be started at any time and if required this can be partially completed and then saved for final completion at a later date.
When submitting the notification of ESOS compliance, the following information may be required:
- Details of the participant e.g. contact details for the undertaking.
- Details of the individual(s) who dealt with the compliance e.g. ESOS Lead Assessor, Auditor(s) and Company Directors who reviewed the findings of the ESOS assessment(s).
- Any information regarding the aggregation or disaggregation of group members.
- The proportion of the total energy consumption which is covered within each compliance route.
What do you need to do with your ESOS Evidence Pack?
Participants are required to maintain an ESOS Evidence Pack which holds records of the information collated such as calculations of total and significant energy consumption, results from the ESOS assessments and the energy saving opportunities identified.
Please Note: The ESOS Evidence Pack is not required when reporting compliance online and will only be required if your organisation is selected to have compliance audited by the relevant Scheme Administrator.
Once the notification has been submitted, an email containing the information you have provided will be sent to the email that you provide. This email needs to be included in your ESOS Evidence Pack.
Participants must keep the ESOS Evidence Pack for the whole compliance period which it relates to and the following two subsequent compliance periods.
