North East accountancy firm completes recruitment drive

Seven new faces have joined North East accountancy firm Tait Walker this spring, adding to the 150 strong team across its offices in Newcastle, Northumberland and Tees Valley.

The new recruits will support the growing business services offering, the specialist tax department and the expansion of their Not for Profit (NPF) team.

The new recruits are Cally Clarke as business services manager; Claire Smailes as corporate tax manager; Jonathan Smith, John Richardson and David Kings as business services executives, and the firm has also appointed trainee accountant Gulam Arif and apprentice, Alex Booth.

Cally Clarke, who has seven years’ experience as an accountant, moved up from London in December 2013.

When asked why she chose to apply for the position at Tait Walker, she said: “Since I moved to the North East I have worked in the public sector, mainly with NHS bodies and local governments alongside a small charity portfolio.

“I recently trained the graduate cohort at PWC and I’ll be implementing these coaching skills at Tait Walker. I decided on moving to Tait Walker as I wanted to get back to working in depth with charities.

“Tait Walker has an impressive, expanding NPF portfolio so it’s an exciting time for me to join. I bring a range of experience, having worked with large charitable companies such as Unicef to smaller community organisations – both have different complexities and needs.”

Jonathan Smith said: “Tait Walker has a great reputation and a varied client base so I’ll get a really broad range of experience. I’m really enjoying the challenge so far, especially getting to work with lots of great North East businesses”.

Tait Walker’s associate partner, Simon Brown, said: “We place huge emphasis on bringing the right people into our business and our Not for Profit offering is growing.”

“Further to these recent additions, we remain committed to strengthening our team as we grow. I’d encourage anyone considering a career in this area to get in touch – we are always looking to recruit good people across the firm.”

Managing partner Andrew Moorby concludes: “We are extremely proud of our ability to attract recruits of such a high calibre. We continue to retain a real team atmosphere at Tait Walker. We welcome all eight new appointments who each bring unique experience and skills with them.”
