Law firm makes ghostly splash for charity
Employees from the Leeds office of hlw Keeble Hawson took to the waters in Ghostbusters inspired fancy dress for the annual Martin House Dragon Boat race – and were declared the best dressed team on the day.
The 11 strong team powered their vivid 30 foot Chinese boat around the 200 metre course at Roundhay Park in support of the hospice, which cares for children and young people with progressive life-limiting illnesses.
This was the sixth consecutive year that hlw Keeble Hawson, one of Yorkshire’s biggest law firms, which also has offices in Doncaster and Sheffield, had participated in the race. To date the practice has raised in excess of £20,500 for the hospice.
Stacey Evans from hlw Keeble Hawson, said: “We were thrilled that our Ghostbusters costumes resulted in us winning a trophy for the best dressed team. We had a great day raising money for the hospice; it is a very special place where people can receive much needed support, rest and practical help.”
John Haigh, corporate fundraiser, Martin House Hospice, said: “Many thanks to the team at hlw Keeble Hawson for taking part in our Dragon Boat Race this weekend. We are extremely grateful for the money that the team raised. Every year, Martin House cares for and supports more than 450 local children and their families, both during the life of the child and into bereavement.
“Taking part in our annual Dragon Boat race is not only about raising money and contributing to our funding, it’s also about enjoying a fun filled community event. It was great to see so many local people enjoying themselves at Roundhay Park, watching the racing and taking part in the activities. The enthusiasm shown by the hlw Keeble Hawson team, and the other 32 teams that took part, was superb and we are already looking forward to next year.”
The hlw Keeble Hawson team has so far raised in excess of £1000 from the event. Contributions are still welcome at https://www.justgiving.com/hlwKHMartinHouseBoatRace2015/
