Lodders appoints James Spreckley as Partner

One of the Midlands’ most experienced property lawyers has joined law firm Lodders as a partner.

Previously a real estate partner at the Birmingham office of SGH Martineau, James Spreckley is recognised for the scope and scale of his property work, which spans work for private individuals, charities, landowners and farmers, as well as commercial clients, property companies and pension funds.

After training and working in London for nearly ten years, he joined SGH Martineau in 2000 where he remained, leading elements of the real estate team and working in both the energy and rural business practices of the firm, until joining Lodders recently.

James brings with him a wide experience built on a broad range of work types, such as options and promotion arrangements, development, landlord and tenant matters, land sales and acquisitions as well as advising on renewable energy projects.

Based across Lodders’ Stratford upon Avon and Cheltenham offices, James will provide high level support to Lodders’ substantial portfolio of real estate, agricultural, charity and ecclesiastical clients, utilising his broad, high level experience that is a ‘perfect fit’ for the firm, according to its managing partner Rod Bird, who explains:

“James’ appointment represents a significant addition for Lodders. He is a heavyweight property partner with skills across an extensive range of property related sectors including developers, landowners, and energy, as well as his significant work within the charity sector. We intend to harness that experience for the benefit of our rural and agricultural clients as well as our commercial property clients.”

James adds: “Lodders has a reputation for providing a first class legal service, whilst maintaining a human approach to clients and staff, which is so important to developing and sustaining long term professional relationships. Lodders offers a unique approach and legal service that is fundamentally different to that of the growing number of larger firms which increasingly take a very corporate approach to the way they work. This is a fantastic opportunity for me to work for a firm that is growing in strength and standing.

“In particular, I am really looking forward to working alongside David Lodder and his clients and in helping to develop further what is a top ranked agricultural and rural practice.”

James is a member of the Country Landowners Association, the Countryside Alliance as well as the Investment Property Forum and was until his move the Deputy Diocesan Registrar for the Diocese of Birmingham for which he undertook a range of ecclesiastical property work. He lives in Cheltenham and is married with three children.
