Talented engineer awarded prestigious ICE scholarship
The Institution of Civil Engineers North East (ICE) has awarded a promising young engineer with a highly-respected scholarship in recognition of his hard-work and studies.
Jack Thomas, from Sunderland, has been awarded a prestigious ICE QUEST scholarship, following his successful application to the scheme.
The QUEST Technician Scholarship provides support to students with technical and practical engineering experience, who are studying courses that could see them earn a professional qualification as an Engineering Technician. Applications required education, employment and qualifications information, as well as references from employers and a personal statement.
Jack, 21, is studying part time BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Built Environment Design (Civils) at Newcastle College and is an Apprentice Civil Engineer at Capita in North Tyneside.
The certificate was presented by ICE President Professor David Balmforth.
Elizabeth Thompson, Membership Development Officer of ICE North East, said: “I am delighted to present Jack with such a prestigious award, which is fully deserved. The QUEST scholarship attracts students of the highest calibre with a real passion for engineering, and Jack more than fits the bill.
“Jack has a promising career ahead of him in civil engineering and I would like to wish him all the best with his studies.”
Andy Stephenson, Director of the School of Construction, Engineering and Science at Newcastle College, said: “I am delighted that Jack has been awarded an ICE scholarship. This support will help him with his studies and is a badge of excellence which will be a great boost to his future career.”
