First patent granted for Redcar’s Applied Graphene Materials

Applied Graphene Materials, the Redcar-based producer of specialty graphene materials, is pleased to report that it has received patent approval from the Japanese Patent Office in respect of its graphene production process.

The patent covers the proprietary process used by the Group for manufacturing graphene nanoplatelets.

This approval is the first of the Group’s patent applications to be granted. Applications relating to the production process have been made in a total of five other geographic territories and these remaining applications continue to be pursued.

Jon Mabbitt, Chief Executive Officer, said:“The granting of this first patent for Applied Graphene Materials’ graphene production process confirms the proprietary nature of our process. We anticipate that Japan will be an important market for the Group.

“We are continuing to build on our existing platform of intellectual property and know how, concerning both the production of graphene and formatting graphene dispersions, to provide the greatest enhancements and performance benefits for our partners and customers.”
