Social Media Apprentice Lands Position At Ionic Recruitment

Specialist Construction consultancy, Ionic Recruitment, based in Warrington, has officially taken on Social Media Manager, Sam O’Hara full time after he successfully completed his digital and social media apprenticeship at the firm.

Sam, aged 20 from Nantwich, has spent the last 12 months working with Ionic while studying for the Social Media & Digital Level 3 Diploma from City & Guilds through the Juice Academy – the UK’s first workplace-based social media apprenticeship.

Sam said: “I had a place at University studying Media and Marketing but wasn’t 100% sure that it was what I wanted to do, so I started to look at other options, which is how I came across the Juice Academy in Manchester - it would enable me to learn skills in an industry which I wanted to progress in, while earning a salary and not gathering student debts.

“Thankfully my application for the scheme was successful and I was invited to attend a boot camp day with other candidates and potential employers, which was where Martyn and Laura from Ionic Recruitment offered me an apprenticeship role.”

After spending the last year learning all there is to know about using social media to enhance a business, the apprenticeship was officially completed on the 20th May at which point Sam became a full time Ionic employee managing all the company’s social media networks.

Martyn Makinson, Managing Director of Ionic said: “Apprenticeships are so important for nurturing talent. We are also keen to support local organisations and local talent, which is why we chose to recruit an apprentice via the Juice Academy in Manchester.

“As advocates for both businesses and candidates using social media to further themselves it was only right that we ourselves helped someone with a passion for it to start their career.

“We have been delighted with Sam’s progression over the past 12 months and look forward to seeing what else there is to come. He is very talented and an extremely hard worker and we are thrilled to have him as part of our team.”

Sam added: “To be offered a permanent role has made me so proud, it felt good that all of the hard work has paid off and my time so far at Ionic has been a success.”
