Winn Solicitors Employee Takes on Triple Triathlon Challenge

On Sunday 12th July, Winn Solicitors employee Michael enjoyed success at the Ponteland Triathlon, the first of an impressive three triathlons that he aims to complete this summer.

Avid cyclist Michael is also taking part in the Spanish City Triathlon and Castles Triathlon, as well as Bike for Bobby, a 125 mile bike ride around the North East. As well as recently completing the Ponteland Triathlon, he also took part in the Cobalt Duathlon on 10th May 2015.

These events are hosted by Total Racing International and sponsored by Winn Solicitors. Michael is taking part in order to raise money for The Sunshine Fund, a charity which supports disabled children around the North East.

The Ponteland Triathlon consisted of a 400m pool swim, a 20km bike route and a five km run, which he completed in an impressive 01:22:26. The Spanish City and Castles events have a slightly longer, open water swim – 750m, as well as a 20km bike route and five km run.

While Michael is looking forward to taking part in all of the events, the Castles Triathlon has the edge “because the scenery around the Bamburgh coast is so nice!”

A newcomer to triathlons, Proclaim Developer Michael took part in his first, the Newcastle Triathlon, last year. He completed the course in only 01:47:15, and admits that he now “has the triathlon bug”.

Michael is most enthusiastic about the cycling leg of the triathlons, “Cycling is my strongest discipline out of the three (cycling, running and swimming). I cycled a lot when I was younger, BMX racing at various tracks around the North East. Around four years ago, I began to cycle more. Since then, I’ve completed the Hadrian cycle route, which is 170 miles up the Cumbrian coast from Ravenglass to Carlisle then across the country to Newcastle. I’ve also taken part in the ‘Great North Bike Ride’, and an annual event around Durham called ‘The Beast’. In August, I’ll be cycling 125 miles in one day at the ‘Bike for Bobby’ event, which Winns are also sponsoring. I also try and do around 30 miles each weekend – weather permitting!”

When asked about training for the events, Michael admits “I haven’t done as much as I would have liked to do on account of having a four-month old!”

If you’d like to sponsor Michael for his participation in these four strenuous events, you can visit his Just Giving page. Good luck Michael!
