Huddersfield set for new major employment scheme

Leeds-based property developer The Scotfield Group has been been given permission to develop a major new employment scheme in West Yorkshire.

After securing planning consent, Scotfield will now develop two plots at Lindley Moor, Huddersfield, for employment use.

Branded as Summit 24, the scheme covers around 13 acres and can accommodate individual units from 20,000 sq ft to 200,000 sq ft, up to a total of around 250,000 sq ft.

Units will be marketed freehold or leasehold, on a design and build basis. Infrastructure works will commence shortly, and units will be complete and ready for occupation by mid-2017.

Stephen Holman, development director at Scotfield, said: “We were pleased to be granted consent for this employment scheme. In addition, behind it there is also a residential development site.

“We have completed the sale of the first phase of this to Harron Homes and Taylor Wimpey Homes; it extends to 126 units and the developers are already on site.”

Rob Oliver, director at Bilfinger GVA, added: “This site offers a rare opportunity for occupiers to secure new manufacturing or distribution premises in this part of West Yorkshire.

“We have considerable flexibility in the unit sizes we can offer, and are already talking to several potential occupiers. We expect most interest to be in the region of 20,000 sq ft to 100,000 sq ft but we are able to provide a larger unit than this if required.

“For occupiers needing a facility over 100,000 sq ft, opportunities are scarce west of Leeds. There is a real shortage of modern and new industrial property across the region at present; conversely we are experiencing good levels of enquiries for new premises as companies look to expand and invest in their operations.”

Bilfinger GVA and Knight Frank have been appointed joint marketing agents.
