Alhambra parks in no.1 spot

A local shopping centre is celebrating after receiving a nationally recognised award for its car park facilities.

The Alhambra Shopping Centre in Barnsley has yet again been awarded the Park Mark by the British Parking Association (BPA) for the ninth year running for its safe parking facilities.

The shopping centre in the town centre originally gained the Park Mark in 2006, and since then has continued to offer secure and well illuminated facilities with lower hourly rates than other nearby parking areas.

To further enhance the parking facilities, an investment from landlords F&C Reit has seen an upgrade to the lighting system, installing LED’s throughout the car park. This has made the facilities brighter, increased visibility and also using a third of the energy consumption.

“The Alhambra has the only car park in Barnsley town centre with the Park Mark due to no other having the same levels of security, lighting and cleanliness that we have.” Said Dave Probyn, operations manager.

Every year, the Alhambra’s car park is assessed by the North East area manager who visits with a police assessor. They walk around every level checking lighting, surveillance, pedestrian and vehicle access, traffic flows, cleanliness, signage, staff training, maintenance and record keeping.

A BPA spokesperson said: The car parking facilities at the Alhambra is very good and passed with ease in 2015.“

Dave Probyn concludes: “ We are delighted to have been awarded the Park Mark for 2015. The safety of our customers and staff is paramount and we will continue to strive to make everyone who parks at the Alhambra feel safe.“
