New housing development provides boost to Scarborough economy

Kebbell Homes is committed to support Scarborough’s economy by pledging to only employ local contractors where possible at its latest development, which will eventually see the construction of 1,350 new homes in Middle Deepdale.

Several Scarborough-based firms have already benefited from this pledge, including flooring specialist Yorkshire Coast Flooring and signage provider, Blue Raptor.

The luxury house builder has employed the services of six subcontracting firms which has allowed for 20 individuals, five of those apprentices, to work at the development named Cornelian Fields, all of which are based or live in Scarborough.

Furthermore, Kebbell has also taken on 24 trainees from local colleges to visit the site for practical training and has teamed up with a social enterprise to recruit two local people to help deliver soft and hard landscaping at the development.

In addition, the house builder has seen an additional six young people from the immediate area undergo trainee programmes at the newly opened Skills Training Village on site, two of which went onto undertake work experience placements at the development.

John Darrington, director at Yorkshire Coast Flooring who has worked on three of the show homes at the Cornelian Fields development, said: “It’s been a pleasure to work with Kebbell on a selection of high specification, luxury houses.

“The fact Kebbell has chosen local suppliers is excellent. Not only is it good for the local economy but it also shows Kebbell’s commitment to businesses around the area.

“By providing these kinds of jobs around the area demonstrates how much Kebbell care about the local community.

Matt Wilson, managing director at Blue Raptor Signage added: “It’s great for a local company like ours to get involved on such a large project. Being locally based meant we were able to turn the order around in just three to four days.”

Mike Mulligan, northern construction and development director at Kebbell Homes, also commented: “We’re proud to be able to use local staff and suppliers within the area and it has brought many benefits to the development.

“We’re always committed to using local subcontractors and suppliers as it’s key for us to build a good relationship with the local community and businesses.”

Cornelian Fields on The Boulevard offers a range of just 28, three and four-bedroom homes, priced from £159,950 to £244,950. Since work commenced, Kebbell Homes has already sold a total of 15 properties to date, which represents over half of the homes at the development.
