New Merseyside re-refinery sparks job creation

The new oil re-refinery being creating in Merseyside will create employment and apprenticeship opportunities, boosting the region’s economy.

When complete, the Eastham facility is expected to create 40 new jobs, in addition to supporting existing local jobs during the various phases of construction.

The re-refinery project was announced recently after a deal was struck between port operator Peel Ports Group and oil and chemical firm Hydrodec.

The CEO of Peel Ports Group, Mark Whitworth, said: “The deal with Hydrodec has come as a result of the significant investments Peel Ports is making to position [the] North West as a prime location for exporters and importers.

“Peel Ports’ investments in transport infrastructure, such as Liverpool2 and the Manchester Ship Canal, is already accelerating the growth of businesses in the North.”

He added: “Hydrodec’s £40m oil re-refinery will have a positive impact on the local economy and create new jobs directly and in the supply chain.”

Peel Ports has ambitious growth plans for its presence in the North West, including £300m of investment to create Liverpool2, which will be the most centrally located deep-water container terminal in the UK once complete.

Elsewhere, the plans to create the re-refinery will see Peel Ports invest over £400k in the relocation of community football team MSC Eastham’s changing and club facilities, in addition to providing an upgraded pitch.
