Liverpool manager clocks up long service

A long-serving manager at Liverpool Van Centre has had his dedication to the company recognised.

Bruce Henderson has been awarded a 10 year service award by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and already has plans for the next decade.

The assistant head of business (sales) started his career as an apprentice mechanic, swiftly moving into sales for prestigious main dealer franchises. Having dedicated the vast majority of his 20 years’ experience to the commercial vehicle sector, Bruce joined the Volkswagen brand in 2005.

The 38 year-old was responsible for turning around sales at the then rundown Wrexham Van Centre. In 2009 the Swansway Group acquired the Wrexham business and Bruce’s performance was recognised, a year later, as the motor group relocated him to its brand new flagship Liverpool site. His role as sales manager was to establish relations with businesses and van operators across the region.

“I can still remember my first day at Wrexham,” explained Bruce. “I had always aspired to work for Volkswagen but the Wrexham business was at its lowest point having been closed for three months. To say it was a challenge is an understatement, but I must admit I enjoyed it and got the business back on track. Hard to believe that our annual target for 2005 is more like our monthly goal now.

“I was delighted to get the chance to build the business from scratch at the Liverpool site. I consider myself driven and, hopefully, my team would say fair. The Liverpool business has received an impressive 14 awards from the brand for its service and performance since its launch in 2011, making it the most successful Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle site, and I am very proud to be part of its success.

“I have my sights on promotion and have no plan to leave the brand or company so I am looking forward to my next ten years.”

Speaking of his service, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle brand director for the Swansway Group, David Cowan, added: “Bruce’s unwavering passion and experience has armed him with a thorough understanding of the complex commercial and business environment, which has been instrumental to the business.

“His loyalty is a real asset to the brand and business, and we look forward to supporting him for the next ten years and beyond.”
