“Monitoring contractor demand across the North West”

Contract Recruitment Index highlights

Regional demand for professional talent on the rise

The July 2015 North West Recruitment Index recorded a 13% month-on-month rise in job availability with 3,607 vacancies advertised, compared to 3,192 in June 2015.

Ross Gilder, Director at Venn Group, commented:

“The summer months typically bring a dip in hiring activity in the UK’s regions, but the North West has bucked this trend and recorded a 13% rise in vacancy levels, due, in part, to growth across certain local authority departments, as demand across revenue and benefits staff continues. As a result, we have seen a sharp rise in demand for council tax customer service candidates.”

Contractors enjoy a rise in remuneration rates in line with increased demand

The average rate for those securing jobs in July 2015 has risen by 17% since our last Index, with contractors now receiving an average of £276 per day across the region.

Ross Gilder continued:

“A recent survey by The Intergenerational Foundation, a group which lobbies for equality for young and old people, has named Manchester as the most attractive place for young people who have just left university or college, beating even the Capital. The main benefits are that a more balanced work/life balance is afforded in the city as housing costs are lower and graduate opportunities are abundant. The survey then goes on to encourage businesses to consider locating to the region to take advantage of the huge pool of untapped graduate talent. One thing is for sure, July’s statistics entirely support that many are finding the North West one of the most attractive places to work.”
