North West businesses offer jobs for Bosley mill staff

A number of North West businesses have come forward with offers of employment for those facing redundancy following the Bosley mill explosion last month.

So far, 22 companies have approached Cheshire East Council with potential job opportunities, including council-owned Ansa Environmental Services, for the staff of Wood Flour Mills.

The leader of Cheshire East Council, Councillor Michael Jones, commented: “We’ve been appalled at the treatment of these people by the mill owners so we are only too pleased to be co-ordinating with local businesses to find them suitable employment elsewhere when they are ready.

“We are working closely with our colleagues in Staffordshire to ensure we all do what we can to support those people who have lost their livelihoods.”

Following the incident at the mill, near Macclesfield, on July 17, the remains thought to belong to three workers have been recovered, with the search for a fourth missing employee ongoing as of Friday (July 14).

The GMB union has claimed that mill operator Wood Treatment Ltd is refusing to pay 45 employees during a 30-day consultation period ending September 6, according to an ITV News report, although the firm described the claim as “misinformation”.
