Leading providers present Gasification technology at RWM show

With seven major energy from waste plants delivered in joint venture, the Anglo-French team of CNIM and Clugston will be exhibiting both past projects and future technology at the forthcoming RWM show, to be held at the NEC in Birmingham, from 15th to 17th September.

Martin GmbH, thermal treatment experts, will also be joining the two companies demonstrating their latest gasification solutions.

Having joined forces in 2003 to deliver the 225,000 tonne per annum Veolia energy recovery plant in Sheffield, which generates 20MW of power and supplies district heating to several Sheffield City Council buildings, they have continued to successfully deliver major Energy from Waste schemes in Lincoln, Oxfordshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire. The companies are also currently completing schemes in Leeds and the North East.

Looking towards the future, Clugston and CNIM, are exploring additional technologies involving advanced thermal treatment such as Gasification, which is being carried out in conjunction with Martin GmbH, whose grate systems sit at the heart of the CNIM Clugston mass burn installations.

Martin GmbH has over 90 years of experience in the thermal treatment of low-calorific fuels and municipal solid waste as well as over 20 years of experience in the field of gasification.

In contrast to other gasification systems, the MARTIN Gasification process includes many benefits of the currently most popular grate-based thermal conversion systems, such as a much higher waste turnover in the chamber and better waste agitation on the grate. Their advanced thermal conversion system is divided into the Gasification chamber directly above the grate, where waste is gasified and syngas is created, and the generating station (the adapted boiler), where thermal recovery of the syngas takes place. The MARTIN Gasification system meets all requirements of the Industrial Emissions Directive (2010/75/EU).

These developments come at a time when, according to analysts Frost & Sullivan, the UK and Ireland are the most attractive markets in Europe for Energy from Waste investment. Previously, energy production was regarded as a bonus arising from developing waste facilities, but it is now often regarded as the fundamental factor driving the economics of new projects.

Clugston, CNIM and Martin are co-located on stands 4D20 and 4C20 respectively, in the Energy from Waste section.
