Homes Together Hiring

A leading provider of care for young adults with visual impairments and learning disabilities, Homes Together, has launched a new brand, a new website and announced it is expanding its team.

Homes Together offers high quality accommodation and meaningful activities for young adults with visual impairments and learning disabilities from across the UK at four locations in Harrogate, Knaresborough and Ripon.

The company, which launched in 2002, has recently undergone its first image overhaul in 12 years to develop a more professional, fresh and approachable face to residents’ families, their current team and prospective employees and residents. It has also announced it is seeking to recruit additional staff to its team, including two Support Workers.

Figures from the Royal National Institute of Blind People suggest there are currently around 96,500 adults in the UK with learning disabilities who are also blind or partially sighted* and young people with vision impairment are twice as likely (44%)* as their sighted peers not to be in employment, education or training.

Steve Jones, Director of Homes Together, said: “These figures illustrate how essential the services we provide at Homes Together are, not only to the community but to the lives of so many residents and their families. When we recruit for new employees, of course we seek those who are most qualified, but what matters most is a dedication to the care and support of vulnerable young adults with learning disabilities.

“At Homes Together we understand the importance of professional development and that candidates will want to attain all their qualifications and reach their full potential. Homes Together is committed to mentoring those candidates who present strong potential through formal qualifications in Health and Social Care. Our dedication to formal recognition and our commitment to our team has previously led to us finding some truly fantastic employees who have proved a real asset to the organisation.”

Homes Together has also committed to working towards enabling a living wage for all employees, as well as providing the opportunity for staff to achieve salary increases in line with increased responsibility.

Wojciech Kowalczk, Manager at Homes Together’s property The Gables in Starbeck, said: “Employees and service users at Homes Together are treated with great respect, which has allowed a brilliant culture to be established throughout the properties.

“I joined Homes Together in 2011 after studying Social Sciences at the University of Warsaw, specialising in social work. I worked in several supporting roles within the care group before working my way up to the position of Manager at The Gables. It is a fulfilling role and I would encourage anyone who also has a passion for bettering the lives of others to apply and join the Homes Together community.”

Homes Together has developed its own programme of training, available to all staff, which is designed to expand knowledge of visual impairment, learning disabilities, mental health and challenging behaviour. This training provides the opportunity for staff to achieve national vocational qualifications as well as ensuring service users receive the highest level of care and support at all times.
