Appleyard Lees Senior Associate prepares for Duathlon Championships
Leeds resident and senior associate at leading IP firm Appleyard Lees, Robert Cumming, is gearing up to represent Team GB at the Duathlon World Championships this Autumn.
Robert will compete as part of Category G (for ages 35-39) in the Standard Distance which entails a 10km run, 40km cycle and 5km run. The race will be held on 18 October in Adelaide, Australia.
Having successfully completed a gruelling Ironman (3.8km swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run) at the end of July, Robert is now focussed on representing his country.
Based at Appleyard Lees’ Leeds office on East Parade, Robert races in aid of Bone Cancer Research Trust (http://www.bcrt.org.uk/) - a charity dedicated to improving outcomes for young people affected by primary bone cancer.
Commenting on the upcoming event, Robert said: “Preparations are going well and I’ve learnt a lot along the way, particularly how on earth you get a bike to the other side of the world in one piece”.
“My family, friends and colleagues at work are being very supportive and are generously donating to my Just Giving page – I have raised nearly £1,000 for the Bone Cancer Research Trust and Appleyard Lees will charity match the total, splitting their contribution equally to its chosen charities (Macmillan and Overgate Hospice). That’s what really makes all the training worthwhile”.
