Hospice Named Official Charity Partner for Leading Event
A charity, which supports people with a terminal illness, is hoping to mark its 20th anniversary with a boost from one of the North East’s leading events.
The 12th annual North East Oyster Festival - which is being held in Newcastle for the first time in its history on Friday September 25 - is expected to attract hundreds of business leaders and socialites from across the region.
The Marie Curie Hospice, Newcastle, which offers care and support to around 1000 families affected by terminal illness every year, has been chosen as the event’s official charity partner and will be hosting a number of fundraising activities throughout the day.
“We are celebrating 20 years at our purpose built site, so 2015 is already a very special time for us,” said Fundraising Manager, Lisa Corfield.
“We were able to secure this exciting opportunity to raise funds at the North East Oyster Festival Through our Newcastle Development Board and welcome the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the care we give.
“We are sure the day will be a huge success and will enable us to make sure every day matters for our patients.”
As well as making their contribution to The Marie Curie Hospice, Newcastle, guests at the North East Oyster Festival will also be able to enjoy a day of live entertainment and food, organised by Ramside Estates.
This includes an appearance by legendary comedian Al Murray, as well as performances by Motown heroes Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, renowned bagpipers, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Celtic party bands Dublin Raiders and the JJ Galway Band.
There will also be a three course fruit de mer luncheon, prepared by the expert chefs at Ramside Event Catering, with complimentary lager, beer and wine served throughout the day.
John Adamson, Director of Ramside Estates, said: “The Marie Curie Hospice, Newcastle, has been serving the North East for more than 20 years, with its dedicated team of doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals providing outstanding support in what can be a difficult, challenging and distressing time.
“It truly is an extraordinary charity and I’m delighted that such a worthy cause will have the opportunity to benefit from the North East Oyster Festival in 2015.”
The North East Oyster Festival, in association with MTREC recruitment and training, is being held at the Rugby World Cup Fanzone at Science Central, Newcastle, from 11.30am until 6pm on September 25.
The move, made to coincide with the city’s hosting of the Rugby World Cup, marks the first time the event has been held outside County Durham in its 12 year history.
Tickets, priced at £150 +VAT, are available by calling 01740 620253. More information can also be found at www.theoysterfestival.co.uk.
