Jarrow Jumps On Board South Tyneside Restaurant Week

Food from around the world is being showcased at a new food festival taking place next month.

The inaugural South Tyneside Restaurant Week, organised by South Tyneside Council, will run from Saturday October 3 to Saturday October 10 2015.

A wide range of venues from across the borough have already agreed to take part, offering visitors the chance to enjoy deals on everything from curry and ice cream to traditional fish and chips.

Among the latest to sign up is Martino’s Italian restaurant, Jarrow, who will be serving a tailored, three course menu of authentic European dishes at a special, discounted rate.

This includes starters such as calamari with tartar sauce, main courses ranging from lasagne to salmon steak with lobster bisque and decadent desserts, including cheesecake of the day, priced at £10 for two courses or £15 for three.

Restaurant Manager, Matthew Porter, said: “We’re proud to be supporting South Tyneside Restaurant Week 2015 and hope it will help to highlight the wide range of options available for eating out across the borough.”

South Tyneside Restaurant Week, which is designed to help boost tourism across the borough, will feature eateries from across South Shields, Boldon and Hebburn, with each offering their own set menus throughout the week.

Along with Martino’s, Jarrow Hall Café, at nearby Bede’s World, will also be participating in the initiative, offering corned beef, potato and onion pie with mash or new potatoes, followed by a choice of chocolate cheesecake or apple crumble for £12.

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “We’re thrilled that so many restaurants have already signed up for South Tyneside Restaurant Week 2015.

“With the addition of Martino’s and Jarrow Hall Café we’re now covering an even wider area in the borough and hope that it will give diners the chance to try something new in their local community or venture slightly further afield.”
