Liverpool subcontractors to access projects worth £260m

A group of construction companies have formed a new Liverpool partnership to allow local subcontractors to bid for contracts worth hundreds of millions of pounds.

The nine firms are coming together at Liverpool Town Hall this week (September 24) to highlight upcoming contract opportunities for the city region’s businesses.

The Liverpool Regeneration Contractors’ Group, which has organised the event, is aiming to maximise apprenticeships, spending and jobs across the city region via the local supply chain.

The contractors represented at the Supply Chain Engagement Event, which includes BAM, Seddons and Wates, expect to have work worth £260m available for Liverpool’s subcontractors between now and 2018.

Cllr Ann O’Byrne, the city’s deputy mayor, said: “In recent years the council has had great success in insisting that firms we issue contracts to meet tough targets around local spending.

“With some of our new schools, more than 85% of the contract has been spent with firms based in the city region, securing their future and enabling them to take on more staff.”

She added: “What we are now doing is taking that a step further and bringing together construction firms working on a range of private and publicly funded schemes in Liverpool and putting them in the same room as local companies who can bid for work on their schemes.”
