North East Calling showcases region's musical talent
THE DIVERSITY of North East musical talent is to be showcased at a free event taking place next month (Oct).
North East Calling is being staged at the massive Fanzone Marquee at Science Central, Newcastle on Sunday October 4, with six bands already signed up to appear and the promise of more to be announced.
Headlined by Northern funk stars Smoove and Turrell, the band will be supported by four piece pop group Twister, originally from Durham. East Durham musicians, The Voluntears, will be performing an acoustic set at the gig, which will also mark the week their debut album is being released.
Darlington band Weekend Sun is also part of the line-up, as is South Shields’ favourite The Waiters and singer songwriter, Annabel Pattinson.
The event will run from 4pm to 11pm and music fans can simply turn up on the day – although under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
“There’s such a buzz in the North East because of the Rugby World Cup and the Fanzone Marquee which has been erected is the perfect place for a music event which shows how much musical talent there is in the region,” said Jonathan Woodliffe of Ramside Estates which is organising the event.
“This will be a fantastic day and we will be announcing more acts as time goes on so it will be an occasion that nobody will want to miss.” The Fanzone Marquee is at Wellington Street, Newcastle and is home to a number of events during the Rugby World Cup.
