New Black Country Burger to boost leading charities

Birmingham diners will be able to have a taste of their region and raise money for two leading charities over the next two months.

The handmade burger Co, which started in Brindleyplace and now has 24 restaurants across the UK, has teamed up with Lloyds Bank to devise the Black Country Burger.

The special edition 7oz burger - topped with black pudding and mature cheddar - is set to be sold at the handmade burger Co’s three restaurants in Birmingham from October 7 until the end of November.

Fifty pence from every burger sold at the restaurants in Brindleyplace, the Bullring, and the new Grand Central restaurant will be donated to Help Harry Help Others and The Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The first taste of the special edition burger will be enjoyed by guests to a charity event at the flagship restaurant on Water’s Edge hosted by the handmade burger Co and Lloyds Bank on October 6 with proceeds going to the charities.

The charity push is part of Lloyds’ 250th anniversary, and bank staff have been raising money for the two charities throughout the year.

Nathan Pearson, general manager at the handmade burger Co on Brindleyplace, said: “This is the first time we’ve created a burger with a local theme, so we’re really excited by the launch of The Black Country Burger.

“We’re delighted to be working with Lloyds Bank and the charities on this campaign and hope our diners make the most of trying the limited edition burger while it’s available and raise money for two fantastic good causes.”

Around 60 business people have signed up for the premier of the Black Country Burger.

Phil Davies, of Lloyds Bank, said: “We have worked with the handmade burger Co since it was first established, and it is a real Midlands success story which is proving very popular across the UK.

“We are really grateful to their team for coming up with the Black Country Burger, and I was lucky enough to be one of the first people to have a taste!

“Lloyds Bank was founded in Birmingham 250 years ago so it is really appropriate that we are raising money to give to causes which help this area, and that a Birmingham company is helping us do it.”
