Dozens of jobs moved as Ultra Finishing announces Burnley closure

Bathroom furniture and accessories supplier Ultra Finishing is set to shut down its Burnley operation, moving around 85 employees out of the town in an effort to slash costs and consolidate its teams.

The firm is aiming to avoid redundancies by relocating the Burnley team to its centres in Bolton and Halifax, offering those affected a pay rise and the option of reducing their hours to offset any extra costs and commute times resulting from the closure.

The Burnley site, according to a company spokesperson, has been sold to a local firm with “exciting expansion plans”.

The spokesperson said: “We did consider relocating to another site in the Burnley area, however having looked at this option in more depth it is decided the business would continue to be disjointed and is not a preferred option.”

“We are in a position where we have other premises to which we could relocate; there are benefits to this not just from a cost perspective but also as part of the objective to consolidate our teams.”

They added: “For those who don’t drive a return bus has been proposed to and from the Halifax site and employees are also considering car share options.”
