Washington-based Glowled takes on apprentice

Glowled Ltd, a Washington-based lighting firm, has expanded with the appointment of an apprentice to its team.

21-year-old Mark Padden, from Chester-le-Street, has joined Glowled Ltd on an 18-month business development and support apprenticeship.

A former pupil of Park View Community School in Chester-le-Street, Mark was helped to secure the position by the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC).

Mark said: “I’m really enjoying my time here at Glowled so far and establishing my career. I’ve learned a huge amount about LED technology and how to prepare client proposals. I have also manned our stands at exhibitions and have identified a number of new leads for the business.”

Arzhang Tahmosybayat, Lead LED Lighting Consultant at Glowled, said: “Mark is a keen individual who impressed us with the research he’d done into our company, and how he could contribute to it. The work he has undertaken so far has been impressive.”

Mark joined the Glowled team working from offices at Crowther Industrial Estate in Washington, Tyne and Wear, and assists with drawing up client’s lighting solutions for clients and identifying new business opportunities.

Andrew Robson, NECC Head of Training Operations, said: “We’re really pleased to hear Mark’s new role is going well and that he is a valued member of Arzhang’s team. Apprenticeships offer a valuable way for young people to earn a wage while learning new skills, and the enthusiasm they bring their employers is extremely beneficial. Best of luck to Mark in is his future career.”

In his spare time, Mark volunteers with the British Heart Foundation and is planning to do a charity fundraiser involving visiting all of the 92 football league clubs. He also collects football memorabilia and shirts (so far 246 shirts and counting) and writes football-themed quizzes.
