5 Conversations shortlisted as CMI Management award
5 Conversations by Nick Cowley and Nigel Purse has been shortlisted for this year’s Management Book of the Year prize which was announced this week by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the British Library.
The 25-strong shortlist for the overall £5,000 prize - sponsored by Henley Business School – reflects and offers guidance on the challenges professional leaders face in managing multi-generational workforces increasingly shaped by technology and engaged through ethics.
5 Conversations, published by Panoma Press, has been shortlisted in the Practical Manager category. 5 Conversations guides business leaders and managers through the haze of technology towards building trusting relationships through the power of conversation.
A record 170 applicants were entered into this years competition, with 53 entries alone for Practical Manager. There are only five books remaining in this category, two are published by Pearson and two by Palgrave Macmillan and one by Panoma Press! Panoma Press, a small independent publishing cooperative will be going up against established publishers Pearson Business, Harvard Business Review Press and Wiley.
This is a great success for Panoma Press, who are also celebrating their 10-year anniversary this year. Originally founded by UK-based New Yorker Mindy Gibbins-Klein and a colleague in 2005, Panoma Press (formerly Ecademy Press) was created to provide a much-needed ‘third-way’ in the world of publishing.
Over the past decade, Mindy has seen the publishing world change dramatically and has continued to invest in developing a sound, ethical and scalable business that provides real benefits for the authors who decide to work with them. Panoma Press has grown from a small business to one with clients all over the world being supported by a global team.
Mindy explains the significance of the CMI awards
“This is a fantastic achievement for Nick and Nigel and it goes to show that you do not always need to go through a large publishing house to make an impact in the publishing world. Small publishers are gaining a bigger voice and achieving incredible results!”
