Massimo Cellino ready to sell Leeds United after “nightmare” run?
Could Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino be finally accepting his time at the Championship club is over?
After watching Leeds get beaten by Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road last night, in which the West Yorkshire club went two goals down in the first six minutes, Cellino made some rather candid remarks about his tenure at the club.
The Italian businessman told The Times: “I’m losing my balls. Ten years ago, I had more balls, but since I came here it’s been a nightmare.
“Now I have a low quality of life. I feel shame when I walk to the shop to buy cigarettes if we lose a game. I convinced my family to come here and they have run away.
“It’s like being at a party where you’re not welcome. It’s killing me. Every night I lie awake, asking myself, ‘Am I good enough?’.”
Since taking over Leeds 18-months ago, Cellino has dismissed a total of five managers and received two suspensions by the Football League within a year.
For his most recent ban, Cellino filed an appeal against the Football League’s decisionon Wednesday, but if he is unsuccessful, Cellino will likely be prohibited to have any role as an owner or director of the Leeds United until June 2016, 12 months after the date of his conviction.
However, this may not matter if the Italian owner decides to finally sell Leeds, and according to the paper, Red Bull may be eagerly waiting for this to happen.
